6th Day

It's the second day into the second week of implementing my inquiry plan (the new schedule). It's also the week before spring break. The students are chatty and excited but they seem to be staying on task better than before this new schedule was implemented. I video taped the small group that works with the Title I assistant today. I just watched it and was please with the students behavior overall. I was told by the Title I assistant that they are usually "wild" during this time, but I think having the camera there eliminated that today. I did notice some students not following along while others were reading and looking "bored". I will point this out to the students when we watch the video together and ask them to give me suggestions on what might help them to enjoy the small group more. Now I just need to figure out how to upload the video!
*I will be taping my small group tomorrow.

  1. I love that you will be watching the video with the students- I think it will be great for them to reflect on their own behavior - and yes the newness of the video probably helped them keep their behavior in check. I will open the next module that explain how to upload the videos- I know many of you have spring break next week and might want to get a jump start on that- thanks for reminding me.

  2. Spring break, love to see it come, but so does the itchy-ness of the students to make it a crazy for discipline. It's funny how the kids act when they are on camera. Keep going, seems when the students watch it, they learn more about themselves.

  3. Yes, I totally love the idea of watching the video with the students. This is such a great opportunity for them to watch themselves, and perhaps, give them an eye opening experience of behavior. With spring break around the corner, these kiddos are all over the place!

  4. I wonder how long it would take our students to become insensitive to the video camera. They usually try to behave much better when they are being filmed. Maybe we should leave one in the room and let them think they're being filmed each day for the rest of the year?? (Just kidding) Hope all continues to go well for you. I was also a little frustrated with some of my students (attention) and with myself (grammar) when I viewed my video.

  5. That's a great idea to video the students working with another person besides you initially. I may use that idea as well, just so I can compare what the ELL assistant is doing to keep small groups engaged with what I am doing to keep the whole class engaged.

  6. I also really like the idea of having the students watch themselves on the video. I think they will enjoy it as well...and learn a lot! I recently audio recorded my students and they LOVED listening to themselves read a story.
